Thumb got Trapped

The worker was trying to remove an isolation spade lying inbetween two flanges of 8" size and was tightening the stud bolts with a Slogging spanner. While striking the spanner with the hammer, he missed, hitting his finger instead causing this injury. The image below shows the injury caused by a misplaced lump hammer blow when the hand was left exposed near the impact zone. The nail was required to be drilled for relieving the build up of pressure within the thumb. This particular injury was caused when a worker's thumb got trapped between the flogging spanner and door of a heat exchanger while trying to loosen 2" diameter stud bolts. Pinch points could be as painful & dangerous as a direct hammer blow.

While striking the spanner with the hammer, he missed the spanner instead hit his finger causing this injury. The image displays the effect of misplaced sledge hammer blow when hand was left exposed near the impact zone. Nail had to be drilled to relieve the pressure within the finger. This particular injury happened when a worker's thumb was trapped between the heavy duty spanner and a heat exchanger door whilst trying to loosen 50mm diameter stud bolts. Pinch points are deadly and harmful like a hammer blow.
